CGPA to percentage formula
CBSE introduced the 9.5 factor when it used the CCE grading system. The board averaged the marks of students who scored the A1 grade (91–100) across years and found the average was close to 95, so a CGPA of 10 corresponds to roughly 95%. Hence the rule "multiply your CGPA by 9.5". Example: CGPA 8.4 × 9.5 = 79.8%.
Many universities and engineering colleges (for example under AICTE guidelines) also use 9.5 or a close formula, but some institutes use 10, 9.25 or a formula like (CGPA − 0.75) × 10. Your mark sheet or the university website usually prints the official formula on the back of the grade card – please use that factor for official purposes.
Why do companies ask for percentage?
Job applications, campus placements, government forms and foreign university applications often have a minimum eligibility like "60% in graduation". If your result is in CGPA you need to convert it. Hindi mein: agar form mein percentage maanga hai aur aapke paas sirf CGPA hai, to university ka formula lagakar percentage likhiye aur proof ke liye conversion certificate saath rakhiye.
SGPA, CGPA and GPA – difference
- SGPA – grade point average of one semester.
- CGPA – cumulative average of all semesters, usually weighted by credits.
- GPA – a general term; in the US it is out of 4, in India mostly out of 10.
Quick conversion table (×9.5)

| 8.5 | 80.75% | 6.3 | 59.85% |
